Bridging Theory and Practice: Data Analysis and Innovation in Action
As a fresh Physics graduate, I am interested in how digital technology has proliferated through all levels of society, continually extending its boundaries and planting new loci of possibility in our everyday actions. ESDlife’s adoption of this as a medium, coupled with a mission to make people’s lives easier, stands out to me as dually inspiring and foresighted. I am incredibly grateful to be offered a position in the company’s MT program this year!
Though I have only joined the company in July, undertaking one departmental rotation since then, I have already enjoyed the opportunity to apply my skills in mathematics and data analysis to projects in concrete reality. For example, I have worked on pricing optimization for our flight agency; the creation of automated use cases for our accessible healthcare platform; and investigations into usage trends for our wedding enquiry tool. Through this, I have developed my skills at considering problems multidimensionally, constructing solutions that are satisfying from both a business user and a data analyst’s perspective. I have also learned to manage the possibility of conflicting interests, factoring in the heterogenous requirements of each stakeholder involved.
The transition from the theoretical rigour of academia to the unpredictability of a working environment has inevitably been daunting, but the perennial support of my colleagues and my mentors has helped me adjust with greater ease. I am excited to develop more skills as I begin my next rotation in technology and operation, as well as in the subsequent parts of my journey!
