ESDlife Industry Insights: Child Vision Health & Myopia Management Survey

July 11th, 2026

ESDlife, in collaboration with ZEISS Hong Kong, has announced the results of the Hong Kong Children's Vision Health and Myopia Management Survey. Capturing insights from 637 Hong Kong parents this May, our research team delved deep into children’s visual health, current myopia management practices, and the critical awareness gaps among parents.

The findings highlight an urgent need for proactive intervention, uncovering three major gaps that parents alike should note:
·      Awareness Deficit: 78% of local students experience continuous worsening of myopia with age. Yet, 63% of parents remain unaware that active intervention can slow down this progression.
·      Examination Gaps: 72% of parents do not know that Axial Length is the gold standard for monitoring myopia and predicting future eye disease risks. Consequently, only 17% of students have ever undergone an axial length measurement.
·      Lack of Follow-up: Nearly one-third of parents do not arrange regular eye exams for their children, and 43% only seek help after a vision problem becomes visible, causing many to miss the critical "golden treatment window" for myopia control between ages 6 and 12.

The latest generation of dynamic defocus lenses utilizes advanced optical micro-structures to continuously signal the eye, successfully bypassing traditional adaptation barriers. A 12-month clinical study revealed that nearly 30% of wearers achieved a dual reversal in both myopia progression and axial growth.
